Workshop: The Legalities of Family Directed Death Care
Saturday November 4th 2017, 11-4 pm 2335 SE Pine St Portland $75

This is the first in a series of three workshops. This workshop is information based and legalities focused with an emphasis on the practical responsibilities involved in a successful home and family directed wake and funeral.

There will be an opportunity to view video footage of family directed home wakes and funerals and a chance to share your stories, ideas and/or concerns around this important sensitive topic.

Some of the topics covered include:

*Historical context of Funerals in America

*Oregon's Funeral Laws and Necessary Legal Documents

*Your "Last Wishes" File :Starting a file that articulates your wishes, provides direction and gives your loved ones all the necessary legal permissions.

*How to Complete and file the Death Certificate, Transportation Permit and Final Disposition paperwork

*Communicating your Wishes and Rights with hospitals, coronors, crematories, cemeteries and funeral homes.

*Documentary Film on Home Funerals.

*Exploring the Natural Burial Option, Conservational Burial and Hybrid Cemeteries.

*Legislative Watch and Citizen Lobbying

Workshop: The Logistics of Family Directed Death Care

Sunday November 5th 2017, 11-4 pm 2335 SE Pine St Portland $75

This is the second in a series of three workshops. This workshop is logistics based and body care focused with an emphasis on the hands on skills involved in a successful home and family directed wake and funeral.

Some of the topics covered include:

*Transporting a Loved One from the Place of Death

*Lying in Honor: the Practicalities and Ceremony of Body Care

*Preparing the Home Environment

* Attending to Children

*Practical Guidance in Eliciting Meaningful Community Participation and Expression

*Coffins and Shrouds: Artisan made Biodegradable Choices, Handmade and/or Hand Decorated Possibilities

*Vigils, Ceremonies, Funerals and Meditations:Incorporating Family Traditions and Styles

*Transporting a Loved One to a Church, Ceremony Site, or Community Space for a Traditional Funeral

*Final Disposition:Crematories and Cemeteries, Rituals of Completion and Goodbye

Workshop: Creative Arts and Mythic Traditions: Exploring Death and
Diversity in Culture

This is the third in a series of three workshops. This workshop is art and story based with an emphasis on engaging the mystery of death through community, mythology and the creative arts.

This is also a chance to share your own stories, knowledge and creations around this important sensitive topic so we can, as a community creatively engage and support each other as we reclaim our active role in natural death care.

Some of the topics covered include:
